Steve Parr - biography

Born in Cardiff, Steve was playing bass, piano and sax in bands by the time he was 14: his first professional gig was with local rockers Shakin' Stevens & The Sunsets. He moved to London to join legendary art rock band 'Burlesque' - he recorded 2 albums with them before they split to let through 'The New Wave!'

Stints with artists like Adam Ant, Desmond Dekker and Geno Washington followed until after a distressing stint as a cocktail pianist he established his first recording studio in the heart of Soho. During this time he was sound producer for 'Concert for Nelson Mandela' at Wembley and 'John Lennon 50th Anniversary' in Liverpool, both televised live worldwide and live albums for 'The Secret Policeman's Ball' for Amnesty International.

steveparrFrom 8 track to 16 track to 24 track in 1990 he started Hear No Evil in West Kensington, later moving down the road to take over Lillie Yard from film composer Hans Zimmer. During this time he was earning a solid reputation as a pioneer of surround sound techniques, holding seminars in Europe & USA and winning awards for his mixes including one for his live 6.1 recording 'Reich at the Roxy'. Picking up an award for best original soundtrack composition for '100 Days' along the way he has now recorded and mixed over 500 film scores in 5.1. You'll be familiar with his 5.1 remix of the Who's 'Who Are You' which is used as the title music for CSI.

Earlier this year Steve closed Hear No Evil to pursue some independent projects he had been planning and is consequently now available to undertake freelance audio work. His wide experience and knowledge of studios throughout Europe puts him in an ideal position to cherry pick the best place for your project on both a technical & budgetary basis. He is fluent in Logic, Performer, Nuendo/Cubase & Protools so is able to work with you on whichever platform you prefer and to convert between them should you need to.
